The Scruffs
This is one of most unusual hide & seek games I ever seen. First of all, it has nothing with mysteries and murders. The Scruffs tells us a story about the big and united family. They need to pay for their house. And you have to help them to find and sell the valuable artifacts they brought from numerous trips around the world.
What I like about The Scruffs is that its more like a cartoon than a game. Unfortunately, the magic is gone after several hours of playing. The game quickly turns into the plain hide & seek with numerous objects. I expected much more from The Scruffs, and I’ll tell you about that at the end of this review. But first of all, let me tell you what I like about this game.
The Scruffs is very fun! Much more addictive than Azada and definitely better than numerous <any>ville sequels with their endless dialogs. What makes The Scruffs so special - probably, this is the first hide & seek game with animated characters that speak. The voices were recorded by professional actors, and every character in this game (including the dog) has own voice.
The levels are similar to other hide and seek games. The quality of some objects is too bad, they are hard to recognize. To use hints, feed a bone to the dog and he will help you to find a random object from the list. There is an additional bone hidden in each room. Find it to increase the number of hints.
You also can play two minigames. Each time when you find another family photo, the boy offer you to play his game. He draw different objects on the photo, and you have to click on the most recent one. If you click on the old object, you lost. You can skip this minigame if you want.
The goal of another minigame is to make a picture from pieces to find out which artifact you have to find. If you played Travelogue 360 sequels, they have the same minigame.
Unfortunately, The Scruffs is missing some features that I expected. Here is what I don’t like about this game:
- The storyline is too plain. The goal of each chapter is to find items, then to make a picture from pieces and finally to find for the artifact. Nothing else is happened.
- Just two minigames. Fun at first, but soon you will not want to play them.
- Bad quality of the images of some objects. They are too blurry. Even when I found them using hints, I didn’t recognize them.
I hoped for more “turns” and “events”. And more cutscenes. And several unique minigames… I really missed that.
The Scruffs is too different from another hide and seek games. Its the first cartoon hide and seek game that I know. It offers a lot of fun and its a perfect game to play. Even if I expected to see more, I certainly recommend it to everyone. The Scruffs is too special to be missed.
