Deep Quest

Deep Quest is an attemp to make a game similar to Warcraft 3. Its a real-time underwater strategy with beautiful graphics and probably a good storyline. But the user interface is very uncomfortable, the game is quite slow and there are some minor bugs. When developers will fix them, it will be the best strategy game that is distributed online.

If you familiar with Warcraft 3, then Deep Quest will be easy to learn to you. Its almost the same.

There is a war between the Abyssians and the Gordlons. You play Abyssians. You have to build a base, train the battle units and defeat the enemy. You can train several kinds of creatures - workers and warriors. Some of the warriors handle swords, while others can shoot from the distance.

There are wide variety of buildings that have different purposes. The base is the main building where you can train workers and store resources. You also have to build houses to increase the maximum number of population and training halls to train units.

The resources are gathered by workers. You need them to build structures and train units. The primary resources are crystals and magma bubbles.

Each level has a list of goals that should be completed. There is also a nice tutorial that will teach you about the basics.

The most annoying thing about Deep Quest is the speed of battles. They are too long. The energy of units is decreased with every hit by a very little amount.. The training speed should be a little faster too.

Another thing that I don’t like about this game is the user interface. First of all, you can’t scroll the map using cursor keys (like in Warcraft 3). And you also can’t to zoom and change the angle of the camera. While all the game is controlled by mouse, you still have to press keys on keyboard to pass intros. You can’t pass them by clicking the left mouse button, and its very uncomfortable.

I was also unable to turn on the fog effect from the menu. I enabled it from the options menu during a game. There are also some minor bugs that are not too critial, but I didn’t like them For example, when you clicked several times on same building - it tries to select it again. When tutorial message is on the screen, you can’t click a required interface button until it gone. These bugs, especially the slow speed of battles and training, have spoiled a good game. For now, I will back to Warcraft 3 and wait when the developers will do fixes. And then I will gladly buy this game.
